Quantity over Quality

You may have noticed that there is a distinct lack of posts this month. To be honest finding time to write between work, family and riding is becoming quite challenging. So, in an effort to make the content more interesting I am going to cease writing about the weekly training. I keep notes within Strava so if you really want to know what my training looks like and what’s going on you can find me there and follow along.

After over 10 years of writing it’s sometimes hard to get the creative juices flowing. Without the usual blathering’s about training you can expect the posts to fall broadly into 3 categories; Race Reports, Reviews and Special Items. This is much more interesting that reading about over-unders, sweet spot zones and so on.

As always, thanks for reading!

Running Voodoo!

I am not really superstitious it’s just not something I put any stock in. There are of course times when I question that and there are occasions when you are just made to go hummm!

image

This would be one of them. Consider this;

  • Sean O’Brien 50k last weekend, cloudy, rainy, cool
  • Bandit 50k this weekend, clear, sunny, hot
  • 12 weeks of training (post Santa Clarita Marathon), to SOB and no injuries, niggles, nada
  • 13 weeks of training (post Santa Clarita Marathon), to Bandit right knee just not co-operating! Feels blocked, clunky, sharp pain sometimes!

WTF is with that!

Happy Birthday!?!

Yup 7 years of blogging! The blogsphere is very different from when I started, since then Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and a million other things have come along and Social Media has fundamentally changed how we live!

I have gone from a runner to a triathlete to this year; a cyclist!

But more importantly it’s time for some cake!

Quadrathon 3.0

Time for a change, the last time I updated my blog’s feel was Decembers 2011 when it morphed from Trail and Ultra Running to Triathlon and became Quadrathon 2.0. Needless to say a lot has changed and some things have stayed the same. Last year it was somewhat neglected, life, in a good way, got in the way, but things are settling down and I am excited to pick up writing again!

And so for now it reflects somewhat of a lifestyle rather than a specific sport although it will of course continue to be a place where I dump all my nonsensical ramblings, reviews and reports (nice use of alliteration).

As always I hope that someone take a minute to read and maybe leave a comment or just think wow maybe I can run a 5k or finish a Sprint Tri?

And you are still wondering what the hell is “Quadrathon”, check out this post!

Finally a big thank you to Mattia and Steve for their inspiration and guidance in the creation of the new header!

I have been nominated for an award…dun dun dun!

Needless to say it’s always nice to have unpunctuated rambles noticed! To vote, click this image, this will take you to page with all the nominees, it’s a bit overwhelming so my advice is Ctrl F and then search for “quad”…voila!

There’s more to the outdoors than trail running!

I was reading Kovas’ blog and he mentioned the Outdoor Blogging Network and how they were setting up a portal of outdoor blog where the focus is to establish it as the “primary site on the web for writers and readers of Outdoor related blogs to come and peruse a vast listing of the best Outdoor blogs in existence”…sound goods to me I thought! So I shot over filled out a quick form and submitted my application…and was accepted under the Trail Running category; yay! Now further inspection of the site is that this really is an outdoors site and caters to some pretty esoteric activities; bird watching, target shooting and bushcraft but there are more mainstream activities including hiking and fishing, by comparison trail running is at the more tamer end of activities!

So check them out and if you feel you fit send in an application and you never know!

Also I have had to draw another winner for the 13.1 contest as the last winner never contacted me, I am always amazed at the lack of follow through but hey whatever…so drumroll Part Duex, congrats EricaH drop me a line to get the entry code!

So what the heck is this Intense Debate comments thing?

Go to IntenseDebateNow let me first say I am an out and out comments whore! And it’s ok; chances are you are too! I have to say of late it’s been a bit one sided but I am catching up honest!

The problem is I am, for reasons unknown to me, plagued with Russian and other Eastern European comments on various body part enlargements, free software, pictures of celebrities and so on, dozens a day!

My comments have always been monitored but I have never censored them; good bad and ugly I have published them. That being said life is too short to monitor them so I have decided to change things and rather than turn them off completely I borrowed an idea I saw on Frayed Laces called Intense Debate, it allows me to easily respond to individual comments either in the comment section or via email and it also allows you to respond to other comments.

Comments can be threaded so you can carry on your own mini conversations about topics within the comment section and you can subscribe to email alerts if someone directly replies to your comment. If you're on Twitter, you can also choose an option to simultaneously send a tweet when you comment on a post.

The main difference is that you need to login. You can either sign in as a guest, create an intense debate profile, or use your Open ID account. I created a Intense Debate profile and stay logged in and it works seamlessly, you even get a reputation score which increase the more you use it…know any Type A competitor types? If you already use Google or Blogger, you have an Open ID account. Click here for info on how to use it.

I think it’s a change for the better but I am always open to feedback so leave me a comment. Love it? Hate it? Let me know! Oh and if you suffer from the Russian Spamia you might want to check it out too!

An alternative 10k

Just a mini milestone in my short blogging career, this week I hit the 10,000 hit count on my Frappr map, for those of you who read this in a reader you will have never seen it and for those of you who only read the most recent post at the top of the page likewise, but scroll right to the very bottom and it’s there in all it’s technographic, geographic, technicolor gloriousness, it’s not super accurate as it includes my visits and I am an avid reader of my exploits!

Please feel free to add yourself and tell us where you’re from, you don’t need a picture but it’s more fun if you do. Oh and of course your can always add one to your blog!
