That trail leads to?
Day-to-day life often has me driving through the pretty and scenic Topanga Canyon which links the San Fernando Valley to Pacific Coast Highway. Just below the summit there is a parking lot, I must have driven past it a thousand times, today I decided to park and see where the trail led to.
The clouds were low and the air was wet with an early mist and with this in mind I left my pocket camera in the car. The trail dipped down starting on a wide path but soon narrowed into a single-track which carved its way through to blooming spring flowers, lulling you into a false sense of serenity, the trail then takes a sharp upward turn to bring you out on the ridgeline. Here you are faced with a choice; left or right. I choose left and followed the rolling ridgeline which varied from rough blacktop to fireroad. Time was against me; isn't it always, so after 30 minutes of exploring I turned around and headed back the way I came with a small loop at the end. Go on let the explorer inside of you out.
Very slick to put in your maps, Stuart! Thanks for the half marathon report, and the fueling info. I think the caffinated squeezy stuff I ate on my half made me sick, so I'll have to try to buy some of the products you recommended when I'm next in the states. (Must be the stuff, not the runner that slowed me down!)
ReplyDeleteGood luck at the R&R Marathon - It seems you have the training in the bag! Regards, Drusy
