Bobbing along on the doldrums...

Two weeks ago was my last run. My ankle is fine, the swelling on my knee has gone down completely, Ace bandages are back in the drawer. What I am left with is a lump about 4 inches long and 2 inches wide inside my quadricep, it’s not sore or tender but it’s preventing me from bending my leg! I can bend it about 40 degrees backwards and when I raise my knee from the hip forwards it’s about the same! And when I do these bends it really hurts. I tweaked during the week by over bending it and I was climbing the walls in pain.

I’ll give it another day or so then I’ll head to my GP, who will probably refer me to my Physiotherapist, she’s really good and they fixed me when I fell apart in 2007. Hopefully some ultra sound and massage will start to free it up. In the meantime I am doing some core and upper body stuff but I can feel my cardio fitness seeping out of my body day by day!

Sigh, no running, no biking, maybe swimming but come on, seriously, how excited am I supposed to get about doing pushups!

Like I said …doldrums!

  1. Totally know what you mean about not getting excited about pushups and about feeling the fitness seep out.

Go through the doldrums, but know that this is temporary and you'll be out again probably sooner than you think, and that you will not have lost as much fitness as you'd thought!

  2. I know exactly how you feel Stuart.

I tried a run yesterday (3 weeks after my race) and I make it about 12 steps before the shooting pain made me stop. Here's the great news: I am running... err.. walking the Women's Nike Marathon in San Francisco next Sunday. I am so bummed out.

I feel so gross and squishy and bleh!

Just wanted to let you know that you're not alone. I wish you a speedy recovery.

  3. Hang in there! Think how strong your upper body will be. Do lots of core work too and when you start up again your form will be better than ever.

  4. Hang in there! I admire you for keeping up with other physical activities even though you can't run right now. This recovery phase will end at some point- hoping it's soon!

  5. Well, you know I can relate to how you feel. Can you swim? That's what kept my cardiovascular level working. Hang in there. I know it's tough.
    This too shall pass. ;)
