Gotta love Nike+

The Nike+ system was the genesis for this blog and the title was procured from a challenge that was stated back in 2006! In case your not familiar with N+ it’s a sensor and chip product that through your iPod or other N+ device allows you to sync up your running data and compete in virtual challenges with other runner and communicate with them through the N+ forums, it’s a great introduction for runners who want some basic running data and don’t want to spend a fortune; the kit costs $30, on more sophisticated devices (Garmin, Polar, Sunnto etc), there is a great online support forum where you can communicate with other runners.

I still track my miles through N+ more by habit then anything else and I host a monthly Quadrathon challenge which you’re welcome to join and I do post to the forums on occasion. Of the technology and the support most of all I do recommend the forums as a great support system for anyone, newbie and seasoned alike. It's a great place to ask questions and provide answers and cheer on (or trash talk) fellow athletes whatever their ability. Anyway I had completely forgotten about a challenge I had joined at the beginning of last year until this arrived in the mail, admittedly a month or so ago and in fact my N+ total is somewhere north of 3500 miles, but even so it was very nice to get!

Thanks Clover and the team!

Have a great weekend!

  1. That shirt is pretty cool. I used the Nike+ when if first came out for a while and was pretty impressed with it. At the time I got more into the Suunto Watch since it gave me mile splits and elevation change, etc. But it's hard to beat the bang for your buck with Nike+

  3. That seems like SO LONG ago that I used to use the Nike+. I remember signing up for 1000 miles/year challenge. It was a big step for me to commit to 20 miles per week. Wow. Now I log at least double that. Oh well, at least it got me started on tracking my mileage and increasing it. It is a great, inexpensive product.

  4. Very cool shirt...however here's my rant Mr Stuart. I trained with Nike+ for my first marathon back in 2007. I calibrated it a few times and all looked good. I logged all my runs carefully, but was confused when I google mapped the same routes - they were shorter the the + reported! So...I re-calibrated. Then I got to Houston to run my marathon. The Nike thought I did 30+ miles! Opps... I undertrained the whole time! Those miles sure were longer in TX! I was a total newbie at the time, and I have to think that maybe that 20% more mileage would have injured my sorry ass....So it all worked out - but I'm a Garmin guy now! ;)

OK, I'm officially done with my rant!

  5. Wow, 500 miles per shirt? I'm thinking you need a bunch of extra accounts, you'd be getting a new shirt every few months.

  6. wow, that's cool...i didnt know Nike would send you shirts for doing some of the challenges...i've done quite a few of them, and am about 3 miles shy of hitting 500 n+ miles, but am converting over to garmin as soon as i reach 500....thought about keeping the n+ going just for the community support and challenges though...

  7. I love my garmin, but that is pretty sweet shirt! Having a forum is probably very benefical to new runners as well!
